childcare professionals the advanced skills and knowledge to
work with children who require extra support in licensed preschools
and daycare centres. This certificate is part of the ECCE Diploma

This Vancouver BC program gives childcare professionals
the advanced skills and knowledge to work with children who
require extra support in licensed preschools and daycare centres.
This certificate is part of the ECCE Diploma program. This program
meets the criteria for the Early Childhood Education Registry.
Early Childhood Educator: Special Education Credential. This
program is offered on a part-time basis in the evenings in order
to be easily accessible to employed early childhood educators.

Care (ID/SCC) program is intended for Infant Development Consultants
who work

River College’s Studies in Special Needs Child Care
In this certificate program, you will develop the knowledge,
skills and attitudes to work effectively with children with
special needs. These skills will be fundamentally embedded in
an understanding of the elements critical to creating inclusive
environments. You can complete this entire certificate program
by Distance Education, which includes 1:1 telephone tutorials
and teleconference classes facilitated by your instructor.
University
of Winnipeg
The University of Winnipeg’s Bachelor of Arts in Developmental
Studies (Stream C) allows part time or full time students to
specialize in inclusion (or child care administration). The
program is well regarded for its development of leaders in inclusive
early childhood care and education and its unique articulation
program with Red River College and Collège Universitaire
de Saint-Boniface that allows students to complete their degree
and ECE diploma in just four years of full time study.

Conestoga
College, Kitchener Ontario
Provides Post-Diploma Early Childhood Educators with the knowledge
and techniques necessary to work with children who have special
needs. The curriculum will focus on the inclusion of both individuals
and groups.
Humber
School of Health Sciences
Post Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood /Resource Consultation
for Children and Families (ECE Advanced Studies in Special Needs).
A post-diploma program whose graduates are qualified to be resource
teachers and consultants working with children with special

Ryerson University
The Ryerson School of Early Childhood Education is a four year
degree leading to the BA with a direct entry program for ECE
Diploma grads available on a part-time as well as full-time
basis. Year 4, Advanced Learning and Career Preparation, emphasizes
the student as an emerging professional who is developing the
perspectives and leadership capabilities that go beyond the
basic professional skills. Students who plan to enter the workplace
upon graduation may choose to learn more about leadership, policy-making
and advocacy in the profession or to pursue in-depth knowledge
of inclusive practice in the schools and early childhood programs.

St Vincent University, Halifax
This Bachelor of Applied Arts in Child and Youth Study program
prepares students for careers in a wide variety of programs
and services for children, youth and families. Students may
focus on early childhood/child care administration or disability/special
needs.
A Master’s Degree in Child and Youth Studies has been
offered since 1999. Core courses in contemporary social issues,
developmental issues, leadership, and programming with a child
and youth focus are required of all students. Thesis research
is highly individualized.
U.S.A.
University of Connecticut, Center for Developmental
Disabilities UCEDD offers on online Early Intervention Specialist
Program (EISP). The interactive, competency-based program is
organized into three interactive modules: (1) Family-centered
Practice, (2) Cross-disciplinary Interventions in Natural Environments
and (3) Interagency Collaborations. The course is aimed at increasing
the number and quality of early interventionists serving infants
and toddlers with disabilities and their families. In addition
to course content participants complete 33 competencies and
receive feedback on their knowledge and skills. Many of the
competencies are embedded within the online modules. Participants
will access a discussion board to share experiences and reflect
on course content.
